Witherspoon supporters rally in Linn Park

Supporters of Birmingham Schools Superintendent Craig Witherspoon rallied Friday afternoon in Linn Park to support a contract extension for Witherspoon and oppose a move by some members of the Birmingham Board of Education to discuss his contract in a hastily-called meeting on a holiday weekend.

Ethics commission forwards Scales case to Attorney General

The Alabama Ethics Commission has voted 4-1 to refer ethics accusations against Birmingham City Councilor Lashunda Scales to the Attorney General’s office, which now has discretion whether to pursue a case against her. Last year by a local carnival operator accused the councilor of using her office and an off-duty police officer to threaten him in a financial dispute. Scales has denied any wrongdoing.

Evidently, right around the end of February, Birmingham and its metro area adopted a lot of Invisible Children. Oddly enough, our fair city and its suburbs had a significant impact on the success of the #Kony2012 movement.
