Guilty plea expected in federal gambling investigation

On Thursday, Morris-resident, Daniel Stone will plead guilty to federal charges related to illegal gambling operations, according to court filings. On Sunday, the Birmingham News reported that Kimberly Mayor Craig Harris had been cooperating with the FBI after he was offered bribes by gambling hall operators.

Mercury found in at least two homes after spill at Putnam Middle School

Traces of mercury have been found in at least two homes of students who attend Putnam Middle School. The school was closed last week after a mercury spill in a science classroom, NBC 13 reports. The Jefferson County Health Department has been conducting free tests for families whose children might have been exposed at the school.
