Weld has learned that Charles Grantham, Alabama Public Television’s chief operating officer, submitted his resignation to APT Interim Executive Director Don Boomershine Wednesday morning. The resignation is effective Aug. 31.
Grantham wrote in his resignation letter that he does not “trust the long term goals” of the Alabama Educational Television Commission, which fired APT Executive Director Allan Pizzato and CFO Pauline Howland in a June meeting. Grantham spoke out after those firings by sending a letter to Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley and all Alabama legislators.
“The work environment has become more stressful than I feel able to endure without damage to my health,” Grantham wrote in his letter of resignation. “Some employees have even attended counseling due to the additional stressful work environment created by actions of the Commission.”
“I just felt it was time time to resign,” Grantham told Weld, citing the “mental stress” he’s felt in recent months. “We’ll just have to hope for the best for APT.”
Grantham said in his letter he hopes for a smooth transition.
