This is the face of Nathan van Wilkins, the man accused of injuring 17 people in a shooting in Tuscaloosa bar on Monday night.
Nathan van Wilkins, the suspect in a Monday night bar shooting in Tuscaloosa, is in custody in Tuscaloosa County. Wilkins is charged with 18 counts of attempted murder, one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling and a count of shooting into an occupied building. According to Tuscaloosa police, his bond is set at $2 million.
Wilkins, 44, is accused of shooting a “military-style” weapon into Copper Top, a Tuscaloosa nightclub, and injuring 17 people. He is also charged in relation to a shooting in Northport. According to the Tuscaloosa News, Wilkins is also a suspect in a 3 a.m. arson at his former place of employment, Capstone Oil in Brookwood.
According to Tuscaloosa police, Wilkins turned himself in Tuesday morning at a Jasper store.
A FedEx store owner told the Tuscaloosa News that the suspect walked in his Jasper store Tuesday morning and identified himself as the shooter. He said his name was Nathan Wilkins, and that he was high on drugs when the shooting happened.
The store owner called the Jasper police, who took the suspect into custody. According to one report, the suspect told police he was hoping that they would shoot and kill him.
Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steve Anderson said the suspect could be charged with attempted murder, shooting into an unoccupied building and other charges.
Wilkins was transported from Jasper to Tuscaloosa by federal marshals.
A WBRC photographer has snagged a picture of the suspect as he arrived in Tuscaloosa Tuesday afternoon. The Tuscaloosa News also posted photos from Wilkins’ (now defunct) Facebook page, including this photo of Wilkins in front of a Confederate battle flag.
