A jury in a federal civil trial found that Victoryland owner Milton McGregor worked with Macon County Sheriff David Warren to maintain a monopoly on casinos in the county, and awarded the plaintiffs $64 million in compensatory and punitive damages, according to a report from WSFA in Montgomery.
The plaintiffs in the case — Lucky Palace casino and a number of charities — alleged that Warren, McGregor and Victoryland worked together to create gambling rules for Macon County that made it difficult for charity bingo casinos other than Victoryland to open.
WSFA reported that the defendants plan to appeal the jury’s verdict.
