As we posted yesterday, The Birmingham News has decided that its readership is too sensitive to read comic strips about pertinent political issues, in particular, Republican lawmakers throughout the country (mostly men) who want to subject women to invasive transvaginal ultrasounds before allowing them to have abortions. In an editor’s note, the newspaper said it would not run the strip, even on its op-ed page, because it was afraid readers might be offended. (But if you’re offended by lawmakers who want to subject you to humiliating and physically invasive medical procedures? Well, you’re out of luck.)
This week, Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau made the issue the storyline of his script, but the News decided to run the bland-as-oatmeal alternate storyline provided by the syndicate.
But if you’re not too timid, or maybe you have the fortitude and strength of will to sit through something as emotionally wrenching as, let’s say, an episode of the Daily Show, you can find the strip here.
