Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Alabama).

Under investigation for trading on nonpublic material information, Rep. Spencer Bachus has started a legal defense fund, the beltway political newspaper Roll Call reports. The fund would allow individuals, corporations and PACs to donate up to $5,000 per year. Bachus can also pay for some legal expenses out of his regular campaign account, which had more than $1 million as of the last reporting period.

While Bachus might be digging in for a fight, many of his colleagues in Congress are keeping their distance, Roll Call reports. The only member of Congress to defend Bachus publicly has been his long-time sparring partner on the House Financial Services Committee, Barney Frank.
