Political wildman and real estate developer Stan Pate has pulled the plug on his campaign for Congress, the Associated Press reports. Incumbent Spencer Bachus and state Sen. Scott Beason are still on the ballot, however.
Earlier this week, Pete Reihm and Dean Young were asked if they would file articles of impeachment against U.S. President Barack Obama. Reihm and Young, who are both running against incumbent Rep. Jo Bonner to be the Republican candidate in Alabama’s 1st Congressional district (southwest Alabama), replied “yes,” they would file articles of impeachment against Obama.
Only a few years ago, Birmingham Mayor William Bell couldn’t afford to pay his campaign manager, who later sued him. Today he has $175,738 in campaign cash, the Birmingham News reports, and that’s after spending $230,765 during last year’s mayoral election. Bell’s biggest contributions came from PACs with ties to the Business Council of Alabama and Drummond Coal. And that campaign manager? He finally got his money and is very happy, his lawyer says.
