Students and other supporters of the University of Alabama at Birmingham have organized a movement to support UAB in the face of a University of Alabama system Board of Trustees that seems to be uninterested in UAB’s progress.
“The movement is resolved in fighting for the fair treatment of all schools within the University of Alabama System by the Board of Trustees,” the movement’s website says.
According to a video on the group’s website, the #FreeUAB movement began after the board, which controls the University of Alabama, UAB, and the University of Alabama at Huntsville, failed to put an item that would have allowed UAB to build an on-campus stadium on the meeting’s agenda.
The video notes that 12 of the 15 trustees of the University of Alabama System graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Rallies are planned for Thursday, Feb. 2 at noon at the UAB Alumni House and also on Feb. 3.
