With opening moves, Bowman blunders
Last month, voters gave George Bowman something very few people ever get — the second chance to make a first impression. But after a few weeks in office, he’s blowing this chance even worse than the first.
Jefferson County Commissioner George Bowman said Tuesday that he and his staff would pay their own way to an Orange Beach convention later this month.
Last week Bowman proposed the county pay for the trip, but the move brought almost instant backlash from the public.
Bowman also defended hiring his brother-in-law as his executive assistant. The county law department already approved of the hire when Bowman served as acting commissioner two years ago, he said.

owman finished the night with 2,188 votes. Austin came in second with 1,751. About 6 percent of District 1 voters turned out for the special election.
