The mtvU crowd might have a “Woodie” for the the Alabama Shakes.
The band, originally from Athens, Ala., has been tearing up clubs around the country in the recent months and laying down young soul wherever they go, leaving crowds wanting more. The folks at mtvU (a television channel that targets the college crowd available on digital cable and on hundreds of college campuses) have taken notice of Brittany Howard and the Shakes’ fiery performances and nominated the band for a “Woodie” — that’s the award given out at mtvU’s Woodie Awards — for best live performers.
You can vote for the Shakes at mtvU’s Woodie Awards website. If you’d like to read a Weld interview with Shakes’ lead singer Brittany Howard, click here.
