Bob Carden at www.washingtonpost.com, in a June 15 travel piece, recalls the occasion 21 years ago when he drove to the Alabama beaches to visit his future in-laws at for the first time. The beaches were looking good to him when he spotted the Discount Bible Factory Outlet in Gulf Shores. An admitted lefty Democrat, Carden told his fiancée, “I don’t think I belong here.” But he’s come to love those beaches. “The scents, scenes and sounds of Gulf Shores are a tempting and lively cocktail,” according to Carden,  a Washington-based documentary filmmaker.

Hell and Back Again, which won an award at Sundance in 2011, will be shown for the first time in Alabama at the Pell City Center, June 14, with some members of Echo Company, including a Pell City native, in attendance.
