Numerous businesses looking for new, larger spaces in Hoover — including a car dealership, a gun store and a natural foods retailer — are moving into vacant “big-box” buildings, according to a Feb. 22 report by Val Walton of the Birmingham News. According to Walton, Hoover has been able to fill up large commercial spaces even during the recession. Martin Smith of Retail Specialists Inc. tells Walton, “It’s adaptive reuse. You’re going to be seeing more of that in Hoover.”
