After the devastating events of April 27th, 2011, Pratt City was ravaged. Though there’s still a great deal of work to be done in Pratt City, Tuscaloosa, and other tornado-damaged areas, local developers Innovative Home Builders took the disaster as an opportunity to build green, sustainable homes in the community.
IHB has constructed several LEED-certified homes in Pratt City, built using a variety of recycled building materials. They feature a wide range of green amenities, including Energy Star rated appliances, tankless water heaters, and high efficiency air conditioning systems, all aimed at offering homeowners a significant reduction in energy use and home maintenance costs.
On Saturday, September 8th, IHB, in partnership with Mayor Bell and Alagasco, will present the 2012 Pratt City Green Home Experience, complete with tours, green workshops, free food, and information on how local nonprofits are trying to continue Pratt City’s resuscitation.
The showcase will take place next Saturday morning from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at 1016 Hibernian Street, 35214. Call (205) 202-9473 or email events@mygreenbirmingham for more information or to register for workshops.
