Would you like to feel cooler than Billy Dee Williams for about 45 minutes? Here's your chance.

This is a test.

I like the idea of having a soundtrack to relax with on a Friday afternoon after work, and I especially like the idea of being able to curate said soundtrack–among my hobbies, making mixtapes is second only to watching the Atlanta Falcons implode. The first go-round didn’t get much of a reaction, but I’d like to see if we can grow this idea a little bit, including adding in some more local music. Submissions and reader input, as with everything else at Weld, are always welcome.

Today’s mix has a very atmospheric, synth-based feel, in no small part because of how much I listened to the Drive soundtrack while writing my piece on antiheroes. (Which, hey, please read that.) To my mind, it’s the perfect music to listen to on a moonlit drive around the city. If you’re not a fan of that 80′s new wave nostalgia style, how about listening to “Ronnie and Neil” by the Drive-By Truckers? That’s a hell of a song.

If you are a fan of that sound, though, get ready to feel cooler than Billy Dee Williams.
